Canadian music dream boat Justin Bieber, a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan, is set to bring his skillset to the NHL All-Star Game this year, confirmed by the Leafs in a social media post on Thursday, January 11th. Scheduled to unfold at Scotiabank Arena from February 1st to February 3rd, the pop icon is slated to take on the role of a celebrity captain for one of the teams. Which team exactly? We’re itching to find out.
Auston Matthews, one of the Leafs’ famous centre players and a captain for the event alongside Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, welcomed Bieber in a video message shared by the team. “Hey JB, looking forward to seeing you at the all-star weekend,” Matthews said. The video, posted on the Toronto Maple Leafs X account, has amassed over 350k views.
In the same video, Matthews hinted at a special present from the team for Bieber. The unveiling occurred when Bieber opened his garage to discover a giant plush doll of Carlton the Bear, the beloved Leafs mascot, who was repping with the logo of Bieber’s clothing line, Drew.
In the midst of the announcement, St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington took to social media, surfacing a playful challenge to Bieber. Binnington, having initially proposed a shootout challenge in 2020, reiterated his commitment to dyeing his hair blonde if Bieber scored. The pop sensation responded by requesting a $10,000 donation to a charity of his choice if he managed to score on one of the ten shootout attempts.
