The Queen of Rock And Roll Tina Turner passed away in Switzerland at the age of 83.
Tina suffered with numerous health issues over the years including battling cancer and kidney failure.
Turner died at her home in Küsnach near Zurich, Switzerland. Her representatives confirmed her death, saying “With her the world loses a music legend and role model.”
In her early 20s, she found fame with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue, a live act with her former husband. Behind their success sadly she endured brutal abuse during the marriage. They divorced in 1978.
In the 1980s, Tina was a solo powerhouse and performed with Mick Jagger and David Bowie and recorded duets with Bryan Adams and Italian Superstar Eros Ramazzotti. Her final stadium concert was in Sheffield, England, in 2009.
Turner was a 2 time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer with her ex husband Ike and as a solo artist. She won a total of 12 Grammy Awards, 3 American Music Awards, 7 Billboard Music Awards and many other accolades including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
We often hear the words legend and icon thrown around but TINA truly was! She was a role model, inspiration, trendsetter and trailblazer for decades and decades with her memorable music and epic live performances.
Tributes have poured in since the sad news broke that Tina passed away from freinds, musicians, actors, athletes, politicians and fans.
Bryan Adams who recorded the track “It’s Only Love” with Tina said “RIP my dear @tinaturner I’ll be forever grateful for you bringing me on tour, going in the studio together and most of all, being your friend. Thank you for being the inspiration to millions of people around the world for speaking your truth and giving us the gift of your unbelievable voice. My condolences to Erwin and your family. Mick Jagger who had collaborated on stage with Tina Turner multiple times -shared photos of himself duetting with her while paying tribute to his “wonderful friend.” “I’m so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner. She was truly and enormously talented performer and singer. She was inspiring, warm, funny and generous. She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her.” Mick included a photo of the two singing his Jacksons collaboration State Of Shock and the classic Rolling Stones tune It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll (But I Like It) in Philadelphia at a 1985 Live Aid performance.
Elton John wrote about Tina Turner on Instagram: “We have lost one of the world’s most exciting and electric performers. A total legend on record and on stage. She was untouchable. Condolences to Erwin and her family. The saddest news.”
Priscilla Presley said “Tina Turner was one of Elvis’ favorite performers. When she took the stage, it was pure magic. I remember how she held an audience with an energy that was undeniably pure Tina! She has left a remarkable legacy and will be sorely missed by all.”
Angela Bassett paid tribute after playing her on the big screen. Bassett helped bring Turner’s incredible life story to the masses when she played the singer in the biographical film What’s Love Got to Do With It in 1993 which garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. On her Instagram, Bassett wrote: “How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world? Through her courage in telling her story, her commitment to stay the course in her life, no matter the sacrifice, and her determination to carve out a space in rock and roll for herself and for others who look like her, Tina Turner showed others who lived in fear what a beautiful future filled with love, compassion, and freedom should look like.” Bassett went on to reveal the heartwarming final words Turner shared with her: “You never mimicked me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina, and showed her to the world. I shall hold these words close to my heart for the rest of my days.”

Oprah Winfrey said Tina was a “survivor” who overcame years of domestic abuse.
Gloria Gaynor said Turner “paved the way for so many women in rock music, black and white. She did with great dignity and success what very few would even have dared to do in her time and in that genre of music. ”
Diana Ross, said she was “shocked” and “saddened” by Turner’s death.
Dionne Warwick remembered her as an “eternal ball of energy”.
Beyonce honored Tina Turner in a touching post “My beloved queen. I love you endlessly. I’m so grateful for your inspiration, and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion. We are all so fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will forever remain. Thank you for all you have done.”
