The 31st edition of the MTV Movie & TV Awards and the 6th to jointly honor movies and television was originally scheduled to be held as an in-person award ceremony on May 7, 2023 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and hosted by Drew Barrymore but due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, the in-person ceremony was cancelled on May 5, 2023 and replaced with a broadcast-only virtual ceremony.
When Drew Barrymore decided not to host the show in support of the writers, the plans of the live broadcastwere cancelled as well. Drew said she will host the awards show in 2024.
Pedro Pascal was the big time winner as Best Hero and Best Duo with Bella Ramsey and The Last of Us won Best Show.
Scream VI won the honours as Best Movie
