The Compact Comedian Contest

Official Contest Rules & Regulations (the “Rules”)

 

  1. The Compact Comedian Contest (the “Contest”) is brought to you by CIDC-FM Z103.5 (the “Station”), of Dufferin Communications Inc. (the “Contest Organizer”). The Contest starts on Friday, September 25, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. ET and closes on Wednesday, December 9, 2026 at approximately 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Contest Period”). No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited.

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY. This Contest is open to individuals who are between four to fourteen (4 to 14) years of age at the start of the Contest Period, are a legal resident of Ontario, Canada, and who are entered into the Contest by their parent or legal guardian, as applicable (The “Submitting Parent or Guardian”). The Submitting Parent or Guardian must consent to the Rules in order for their child to be eligible for entry into the Contest. Children of employees, or children domiciled with an employee of the Contest Organizer, its agents, parent, affiliated or related companies, subsidiaries, divisions, prize sponsors, and promotional and advertising agencies and administrators, are ineligible for entry. A winner of a Station contest within seven (7) days preceding the start of the Contest Period where the prize won had a value less than $1,000.00, or within thirty (30) days preceding the start of a Contest Period where the prize won had a value between $1,000.00 - $9,999.99, or, within ninety (90) days preceding the start of the Contest Period where the prize won had a value of $10,000.00 or greater, including any individuals designated by such winners to take ownership of prizes and individuals domiciled with such a winner, are ineligible to enter and may be disqualified.

 

  1. TO ENTER. During the Contest Period, the Submitting Parent or Guardian must complete and submit an online ballot at the Station’s website (https://z1035.com/) to enter their child into the Weekly Prize Draw (defined below). In order to be valid for entry, each online ballot must include an audio file containing the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s child’s joke(s), a photograph of the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s child, and a statement drafted by the Submitting Parent or Guardian explaining why they believe their child should win the Prize (defined below) (each, a “Submission”). Submissions must contain all required information and technical specifications as set out by the Station and must be submitted in accordance with Sections 5 and 17 of these Rules.

 

  1. WEEKLY SUBMISSION WINDOW. Each weekly entry period begins at 12:00 a.m. ET every Thursday during the Contest Period (except for Friday, September 25, 2026, where the weekly entry period begins at 12:00 p.m. ET on a Friday) and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on every following Wednesday during the Contest Period (each, a “Weekly Submission Window”). A Weekly Prize Draw (defined below) will be conducted every Thursday during the Contest Period for eligible Submissions received during the immediately preceding Weekly Submission Window. To be eligible for a particular Weekly Prize Draw, a Submission must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on the Wednesday immediately preceding that Weekly Prize Draw. Any Submissions received after the close of a Weekly Submission Window will not be included in the immediately following Weekly Prize Draw and will instead be included in next week’s Weekly Prize Draw.

 

  1. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS. The Contest Organizer has the full and absolute discretion to determine if a Submission meets the requirements set out in these Rules and on the Station website. Submissions that do not include all Contest requirements or do not adhere to these Rules will be considered void and the Submitting Parent or Guardian may be disqualified without notice. In addition to Section 17 of these Rules, each Submission must meet the following criteria to be eligible for consideration in a Weekly Prize Draw (defined below):
    1. The photograph contained in the Submission must be of high resolution and clarity sufficient to identify the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s child. The photograph must only and exclusively picture the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s child and must not contain or feature any other individuals or children.
    2. The audio file contained in the Submission must be uploaded in a file format that is approved by the Contest Organizer, as specified on the Station’s website.
    3. The audio file contained in the Submission must have sufficient audio quality that is comprehensible, clear, and must not be distorted by background noise.
    4. The audio file contained in the Submission must be within the duration limits as specified on the Station’s website.
    5. The creative substance, content, material, and specific jokes contained in the Submission must be original material created by the child and must not be copied, reproduced, adapted, or derived from any third-party material. The Submitting Parent or Guardian represents and warrants that the child is the original creator of the material contained in the Submission and that, to the best of the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s knowledge, the Submission does not infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary right of any third party. Submissions that contain third-party materials are strictly prohibited and may result in disqualification. 
    6. Submissions must not be generated by artificial intelligence or contain any content that is generated or materially altered by artificial intelligence. Any Submission determined, in the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion, to have been created or developed in whole or in part using such systems will be deemed ineligible and may be disqualified.
    7. Submissions cannot contain content or statements that are abusive or that may discriminate or defame an identifiable individual or promote hatred towards an identifiable individual or group.
    8. Submissions cannot contain obscene, profane, vulgar, or sexually explicit language.
    9. Submissions cannot impersonate another individual, use another individual’s voice or likeness, and cannot contain any copyright protected material or any intellectual property that is not owned by the entrant. 
    10. Submissions cannot contain false or misleading information.

 

  1. A child is eligible for one (1) entry per Weekly Submission Window. If it is discovered that a child’s name has been entered more than once during a Weekly Submission Window, or has been entered again after already being declared a Weekly Compact Comedian and winning a Prize, or if the Contest Organizer suspects or determines that a child’s name has been entered more than one (1) time by using falsified information, fraudulent conduct, or other prohibited or unlawful means, all subsequent entries will be void and a police report will be filed documenting the conduct of the Submitting Parent or Guardian.

 

  1. WEEKLY PRIZE DRAW AND CONTACT. Every Thursday during the Contest Period (Thursday, October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Thursday, November 5, 12, 19, 26, and Thursday, December 3, 10) at any time, one (1) Submission (each, a “Potential Compact Comedian”) will be randomly drawn from the eligible Submissions received for that immediately preceding Weekly Submission Window at 5312 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke, Ontario (each, a “Weekly Prize Draw”). The Contest Organizer, acting reasonably, will attempt to contact the Submitting Parent or Guardian to notify them that their child may have won a Prize (defined below) by telephone immediately after the applicable Weekly Prize Draw. In the event that the Submitting Parent or Guardian cannot be contacted immediately after the Weekly Prize Draw or does not immediately answer the Contest Organizer’s telephone call, their child may be disqualified and an alternate Potential Compact Comedian may be drawn at the Contest Organizer’s sole discretion from the remaining Submissions received from the same immediately preceding Weekly Submission Window. The Submitting Parent or Guardian will be required to provide a representative of the Contest Organizer with their name, address, telephone number, child’s name, and such other information as may be required to administer the Contest.

 

  1. If there is not a clear telephone connection between the Station’s on-air announcer and the Submitting Parent or Guardian, such that one or each other cannot hear the other, such Submitting Parent or Guardian will be disqualified, and the Contest Organizer will not be liable in any way for such failed connection. In conducting the Contest, the Contest Organizer and its representatives have the full and absolute discretion to disqualify any Submitting Parent or Guardian whose response cannot be heard by the Contest Organizer’s representative, and the Contest Organizer shall have no liability or responsibility to any individual so disqualified.

 

  1. The provisions and procedures referred to above relating to the selection and notification concerning a Potential Compact Comedian shall be applied, with the necessary amendments, until a weekly compact comedian has been duly selected (each, a “Weekly Compact Comedian”), but in any event, by no later than the Wednesday following each Weekly Prize Draw.

 

  1. PRIZE. There are eleven (11) prizes available to be won. The number of prizes available to be won will continually decrease by one (1) following each Weekly Prize Draw until all eleven (11) prizes have been awarded. Each prize consists of:

 

  1. an opportunity for the Weekly Compact Comedian to be interviewed by the Station’s on-air host and to record one (1) short comedy program originally created by the Weekly Compact Comedian, pre-recorded with the Contest Organizer on either the Friday, Monday or Tuesday following the Weekly Prize Draw in which they are declared a Weekly Compact Comedian, and broadcast on the Wednesday following the Weekly Prize Draw between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. ET (each, a “Prize Recording”); and
  2. one (1) gift card to a store between a minimum value of twenty-five ($25.00) dollars and a maximum value of one hundred ($100.00) dollars, determined in the sole discretion of the Contest Organizer

(each, a “Prize”). The approximate retail value of each Prize is between twenty-five ($25.00) dollars and one hundred ($100.00) dollars.

  1. The Prize must be accepted as awarded. The Prize may not be sold or transferred and is not substitutable by the Prize winner or convertible to cash. The Contest Organizer reserves the right to substitute a Prize in whole or in part in the event that all or any component of the Prize is unavailable. The Prize will not be replaced if lost or stolen.

 

  1. The Submitting Parent or Guardian is solely responsible for any and all costs not expressly described herein, including, but not limited to, items of a personal nature, souvenirs, taxes, insurance, gratuities, and all personal expenses of any kind or nature. The Contest Organizer is not responsible for any delay, postponement, suspension, rescheduling or cancellation, for any reason, of the Prize, and no compensation will be provided in the event of such delay, cancellation, or other event described herein.

 

  1. PRIZE SUPPLIER. The prize supplier is Dufferin Communications Inc. (the “Prize Supplier”).

 

  1. ODDS OF WINNING. The odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible Submissions received during the Contest Period.

 

  1. AWARDING OF PRIZES. No prize will be awarded unless the Submitting Parent or Guardian: shows proof of identification in the form of a valid government-issued identification card; correctly answers, unaided, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question administered by the Contest Organizer; and signs and returns, within the time stipulated by the Contest Organizer, a full release and indemnity and media consent form. The full release and indemnity and media consent form will require the Submitting Parent or Guardian to confirm that: they have full authority to execute the full release and indemnity and media consent form on behalf of their child; they have read, understood and complied with the Rules; the Prize is accepted as awarded; they are responsible for any additional fees or charges associated with the Prize; they grant permission for the Contest Organizer to broadcast their child’s name and the Prize Recording on-air, and their own name, and if applicable, any recording of their own voice, if captured during the Prize Recording, and to publish and/or post their name and their child’s name and the Prize Recording on the Station’s website, contest webpage, and social media accounts without notice or compensation; waive all moral rights in the Prize Recording in favour of the Contest Organizer, including by providing the Contest Organizer the right to modify, edit and excerpt the Prize Recording as it deems fit; and they release and indemnify the Contest Organizer from any and all liability of any kind arising out of their child’s participation in this Contest and their receipt and use of the Prize. The Submitting Parent or Guardian will also be provided with the option to permit use of their child’s photograph or likeness on the Station’s website, webpage and/or social media for Contest promotion purposes. In the event that the Submitting Parent or Guardian does not comply with all the provisions as contemplated in these Rules, the Contest Organizer shall have the right to disqualify the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s entry, refuse to award the Prize and select an alternate Potential Weekly Compact Comedian, and the Contest Organizer shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard.

 

  1. The Submitting Parent or Guardian must claim the Prize by complying with all required steps listed at Section 15 of these Rules concerning the awarding of prizes and make their child available to record the Prize Recording at the date and time determined by the Contest Organizer. If the Submitting Parent or Guardian does not claim the Prize by complying with these steps, the Prize will be considered forfeit and the Contest Organizer may, at its sole discretion, select an alternate Weekly Compact Comedian. If because of illness or any other reason, a Weekly Compact Comedian is unavailable to record their comedy program at the scheduled date and time, the Prize Recording component of the Prize may be forfeit, or rescheduled, at the sole discretion of the Contest Organizer, or the Weekly Compact Comedian may be disqualified and an alternate Weekly Compact Comedian may be selected in the sole discretion of the Contest Organizer. Prize components may be sent electronically by email, in paper format to the Submitting Parent or Guardian’s mailing address or may be available for pick-up from the Station. The Submitting Parent or Guardian is responsible for claiming the gift card component of the Prize from the Station and is solely responsible for transportation to and from the Prize pickup location. The Submitting Parent or Guardian is responsible for providing the Contest Organizer with the accurate and up-to-date contact information required for the digital transfer of the Prize. The Contest Organizer is not responsible for any failure to receive the Prize due to incorrect, incomplete, or outdated information provided by the Submitting Parent or Guardian. No credit or reimbursement will be provided if the Prize is not claimed.

 

  1. PHOTO, VIDEO OR WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS. From time to time, a Contest entry mechanism may require entrants to submit an original submission, such as an original photograph, video, audio, or written composition, (each, an “Original Submission”) to the Contest Organizer, subject to instructions provided by the Contest Organizer or its representatives. Original submissions must be original and must not include any third party’s proprietary content. The Contest Organizer may, in its sole and absolute discretion: (i) disqualify any entrant who uses third party proprietary content, at any time; (ii) edit any Original Submission to blur out any trade-marks or to remove any copyrighted content; or (iii) disqualify any Original Submission that involves anything illegal, potentially or actually dangerous or harmful or containing any element of physical risk. Original Submissions must not contain any reference to, or likeness of, any identifiable third parties, unless consent has been obtained from all such individuals and their parent or legal guardian if they are under the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence. Original Submissions must not include any illegal, defamatory or in any way obscene content. Original Submissions cannot be a parody or derogatory. Original Submissions will become the property of the Contest Organizer and will not be returned. By entering a Contest, each entrant: (i) represents and warrants that their Original Submission is their original work and does not infringe on any third party rights, including, without limitation, copyright, trade-mark or any other intellectual property rights; (ii) represents and warrants that they have all necessary rights from any third party that appears, or is mentioned, in the Original Submission, including those from the parent or legal guardian if third party is under the age of majority; (iii) grants the Contest Organizer an unlimited, royalty free, irrevocable, right and license to reproduce, post and broadcast the Original Submission in any form of media now known or hereinafter developed; (iv) waives all moral rights in the Original Submission in favour of the Contest Organizer; (v) agrees to release, indemnify, discharge and hold harmless the Contest Organizer from any claim or liability arising from or related to the Original Submission; and (vi) consents to the publication or use, in any medium of the Original Submission for the purpose of administering the applicable Contest and publicity purposes carried out by the Contest Organizer without payment or compensation of any kind. Original Submissions may be showcased by the Contest Organizer at its sole and absolute discretion on a public viewing gallery. The Contest Organizer assumes no responsibility for any claims against infringement of the right of privacy with respect to any Original Submission.

 

  1. RELEASE AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. BY PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST, PARTICIPANTS AND THE SUBMITTING PARENT OR GUARDIAN WILL WAIVE CERTAIN LEGAL RIGHTS, INCLUDING THE RIGHT TO SUE OR CLAIM COMPENSATION FOLLOWING AN ACCIDENT AND THE SUBMITTING PARENT OR GUARDIAN WILL AGREE TO INDEMNIFY THE CONTEST ORGANIZER AND OTHERS AGAINST LIABILITY. Participants and the Submitting Parent or Guardian acknowledge that participation in this Contest and the collection or use of the Prize may be inherently dangerous and agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless the Contest Organizer and its parent, affiliated or related companies, and subsidiaries, and their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives, agents, and advertising and promotional agencies, from any and all claims, damages, injuries or losses of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity, or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the Prize.

 

  1. By entering their child into the Contest, the Submitting Parent or Guardian automatically agrees to accept and abide by these Rules. All decisions of the Contest Organizer with respect to any aspect of this Contest, including, without limitation, the eligibility of entries, are final and binding on all entrants in all matters as they relate to this Contest.

 

  1. All entries become property of Contest Organizer. The Contest Organizer assumes no responsibility for garbled, lost, late, delayed, destroyed or misdirected entries, mail, voice messages, e-mail or any computer errors or malfunctions. No correspondence will be entered into except with entrants requesting a copy of these Rules by mail, for which a self-addressed, postage paid envelope must be included. The Contest Organizer does not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, seeding or printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof. Entry materials or data that have been tampered with or altered are void.

 

  1. The Contest Organizer reserves the right to withdraw, cancel, terminate, modify, amend, extend or suspend this Contest at any time without prior notice. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, if, in the opinion of the Contest Organizer, in its sole discretion, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, or if the administration, security, fairness, integrity or the proper conduct of the Contest is corrupted or adversely affected, including by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond its control, the Contest Organizer reserves the right to withdraw, cancel, terminate, modify, amend, extend or suspend the Contest without prior notice, including by selecting a Potential Weekly Compact Comedian from previously received eligible entries. The Contest Organizer reserves the right to modify the Rules without materially affecting the terms and conditions hereof.

 

  1. The Contest Organizer reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of the Rules or otherwise in a disruptive manner, including any automated, macro, script, robotic or other system(s) or program(s) to enter. Any attempts to deliberately damage the Contest website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws and, should such an attempt be made, the Contest Organizer reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent of the law. The Contest Organizer shall not be held responsible for any errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the Contest, including any damage to an entrant’s computer equipment, system, software or any combination thereof, as a result of their participation in this Contest or from downloading any material from the Contest website.

 

  1. The Contest Organizer is not responsible for any typographical or other error in the printing of the offer, the administration of the Contest, or any announcements related to the Contest or the Prize.

 

  1. In no event shall the Contest Organizer be obligated to award more prizes than is set out in these Rules or to award prizes otherwise than in compliance with these Rules.

 

  1. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations. These Rules will be interpreted according to the laws of Ontario, Canada.

 

  1. By entering this Contest, each Submitting Parent or Guardian consents to the collection, use and distribution of their and their child’s personal information (information that identifies an entrant as an individual, such as their name, telephone number, age, address and e-mail address) by the Contest Organizer for the purposes of implementing, administering and fulfilling this Contest. The Contest Organizer will not sell or transmit this information to third parties except for the purposes of administering this Contest, or as otherwise identified in the Rules, unless the Submitting Parent or Guardian provides their express consent.   1. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including but not limited to the Contest entry form, or point of sale, radio, television, print or online advertising, the terms and conditions of the Rules shall prevail, govern and control.

 

  1. All intellectual property, including but not limited to trade-marks, trade-names, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Contest Organizer, the Prize Supplier(s), and/or their affiliates. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
