As hinted at in the end credits of Afterlife, the next chapter will return to the original films’ New York City and firehouse setting. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was held by Sony during the pandemic, when theaters were closed, and was a cornerstone to the Thanksgiving 2021 holiday box office.
Director Jason Reitman is returning with co-writer Gil Kenan.
The official Ghostbusters Twitter account posted on June 8th that a new script is in the works and revealed the code name “Firehouse”

AFTERLIFE earned more than $200 million at the global box office despite being released in the midst of the Pandemic.
The original Ghostbusters was released June 8, 1984 and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, the late Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver and made over 295.2 Million at the Box Office and received critical acclaim and became a cultural phenomenon with the popular animated series The Real Ghostbusters (1986), its sequel Extreme Ghostbusters (1997), plus video and board games, comic books, clothing, music and haunted attractions. Ghostbusters was followed in 1989 by Ghostbusters II and a reboot in 2016.
