Is it time to move? For the seventh year in a row FINLAND is the Happiest Country in the World according to the annual report that marks the United Nations International Day of Happiness on March 20!

Frank Martela, a Finnish philosopher and psychology researcher says Finnish people are happy because they have a strong sense of community and relatedness, do good deeds for other people, and find a clear purpose for themselves.
Finland outperforms the average country in education, work-life balance, environment quality, social connections, safety and life satisfaction, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Better Life Index.
Life expectancy at birth in Finland is around 82 years, 85 for women and 79 for men.
The Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, which publishes the report, says that in addition to using the Cantril ladder question, the report also considers the following six variables in the more than 130 countries ranked in the report:
- GDP per capita
- Social Support
- Healthy life expectancy
- Freedom
- Generosity
- Freedom of corruption
Canada dropped 2 places from 13th to 15th in the 2024 ranking. The UK is Number 20. The United States is Number 23 and Germany Number 24.
In the United States and Canada, happiness scores from people under 30 were dramatically lower than those from people age 60 and older. Among people under 30, the US ranked at No. 62, while for those 60 and older, it was No. 10. Canada was No. 58 among the young and No. 8 for those 60 and older.
Afghanistan remains the world’s lowest-ranked country for happiness. Lebanon, Lesotho, Sierra Leone and Congo also ranked at the bottom.
