If you’ve watched any amount of television in the last year, you may not have been surprised to hear of the success surrounding many of the Emmy winners this year. The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (originally scheduled for September but postponed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike) honoured the best American prime time television programming from June 2022 to May 2023 – many of the categories reflecting last years best series as well.
“Beef” had a noteworthy evening, securing a total of eight awards, with five Primetime Emmy trophies claimed over the course of the night including a huge win for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

Despite the timing, honoring other standout shows like “Succession” and “The Bear” felt timeless. Following the Golden Globes, both series dominated their categories at the Emmys. Matty Matheson, Canada’s chef, restaurateur, actor and internet personality (as seen on Selena + Chef), serves as co-producer on the hit series. As he begun his thank you speech for their (“The Bear”) win for Best Comedy Series, he was interrupted by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who gave him a big ol’ smooch.

Christina Applegate made a surprising appearance at the 2023 Emmys, presenting the supporting actress in a comedy series award to Ayo Edebiri from “The Bear”, resulting in a massive standing ovation. In August 2021, Applegate disclosed her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis and had mostly stayed out of the public eye until making a few appearances last year in support of the final season of “Dead to Me,” her acclaimed Netflix comedy series. Despite her health challenges, she earned an Emmy nomination at this year’s show for outstanding actress in a comedy series for her role in “Dead to Me.” Applegate humorously acknowledged the standing ovation, saying, “Oh my god, you’re totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It’s fine…Body not by Ozempic. Okay, let’s go.”
