The New Orleans Saints defeated Carolina Panthers 20-17 and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 26-22 on Monday Night Football.
In addition to the double header last night on ABC and ESPN “MNF” rolled out a new theme song with country star Chris Stapleton and hip hop legend Snoop Dogg teaming up for a cover of the Phil Collins classic “In the Air Tonight” also featuring Cindy Blackman Santana on drums.
Stapleton posted a teaser of the new theme song on his Instagram on Monday.
The classic instrumental anthem “Heavy Action,” which has used on Monday Night Football since 1975, will still be heard following the new theme song and throughout the broadcast.
The Hank Williams Jr. song “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night” served as the MNF theme song from 1989 until 2011, when it was dropped after Williams made inflammatory comments about President Obama on Fox News. The song was later brought back as MNF‘s theme from 2017 to 2019.
