Ed Sheeran performed 3 shows in Toronto on the weekend including an intimate show at History on Friday followed by 2 huge shows at the Rogers Centre. Sheeran surprised the crowd on Saturday night by bringing out Pickering/Toronto’s very own Shawn Mendes for a couple of songs including Ed’s 2011 single “Lego House” and an acoustic version of Shawn’s 2017 hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”
What an amazing moment! It was Mendes first appearance since he cancelled a 70-plus date world tour to take care of his mental health in July 2022. At the time, Shawn said he felt he had to “take the time I’ve never taken personally to grow myself and come back stronger.”
Shawn said last summer “I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.” Shawn made his health his “first priority.”
On June 9th, Mendes released a new track “What the Hell Are We Dying For?” and wrote on his Instagram “Started writing this song yesterday morning with my friends in upstate New York & finished it only a few hours ago..felt important to me to share with you guys in real time ♥️♥️ also donating to Canadian Red Cross, head to the link in my bio to learn more or donate if you can.”

Ed Sheeran posted a video on his Instagram with the caption “Toronto ❤️❤️. What a moment. Me and @shawnmendes on stage in his home town. Wish I could bottle the feeling and keep opening it to feel that buzz again, so much fun. Thank you for singing with me man, so good to have you back x”
