Universal’s FAST X raced to the top of the North American Box Office in its debut with $67.5 million last weekend and $318.9 million globally . Overseas, The 10th installment in the FAST franchise took in a huge $251.4 million in its international debut. Its global opening makes it the Number 2 debut of the year behind fellow Universal’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie at $377 million. Internationally, it is the top opening of 2023 so far. Will it be #1 for a second week in a row? It has some competition including Little Mermaid expected to do big number during the US Memorial Day Weekend! The live action remake of The Little Mermaid is expecting to swim to the top of the Box Office this weekend Starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Awkwafina.
MOVIE SYNOPSIS: A young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. (Rated PG) In theaters.
Halle Bailey chose to focus on the positive after a racist online backlash when she was cast as Ariel in `”The Little Mermaid.” Bailey says her friends and family were so uplifting after the criticism from social media trolls saying the title character should not be Black. Bailey says she’s proud to be a Black princess for all the children who are experiencing “The Little Mermaid” story for the first time.”

Co-star Daveed Diggs says casting an African-American woman like Bailey in the role sends a strong message to the young girls and boys who haven’t always seen themselves represented in fairy tales.

Sebastian Maniscalco plays a boutique hotel manager who is on the brink of popping the question to his girlfriend, played by Leslie Bibb. Robert De Niro plays his Italian hairdresser dad Salvo, and Canadian actress Kim Cattrall, plays Bibb’s senator mother, asks for a “glow-up.”
Cattrall says working with De Niro in such an intimate and funny scene was an exciting, yet grounding experience.
