The 76th Cannes Film Festival opens tomorrow Tuesday May 16th with the premiere of “Jeanne du Barry,” a historical drama by Maiwenn starring Johnny Depp as Louis XV. The French-language role marks Depp’s first big screen appearance in three years as he rebuilds his career after winning the highly public defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard in June of 2022. Depp’s last feature film appearance was in W. Eugene Smith biopic Minimata.

This year’s festival is headlined by a pair of marquee premieres including Martin Scorsese’s Osage Nation 1920s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
James Mangold’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” stars Harrison Ford in his final performance as the main character.
21 films are competing for the Palme d’Or in France.

A pair of Chris Pratt films earned the top two spots at the box office this weekend.
In first place was Marvel Studio’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three,” which added 60.5-million dollars from North American theatres in its second weekend. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was second taking in $13 Million dollars in its 6th weekend. “Book Club: The Next Chapter,” starring Jane Fonda and Diane Keaton, debuted in the third spot, “Evil Dead Rise” in 4th and “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” rounded out the top five.Here are Weekend Box Office Numbers:
