Drew Barrymore announced he is is not hosting the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday.
In solidarity with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, Drew Barrymore has withdrawn from hosting the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards but has agreed to host next year’s event. “I have heard the concerns of the writers and to show them true respect, I have decided to step down from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards live during this strike.”
She added in her statement that she will be watching the event from home and expressed her gratitude to MTV.
The MTV Movie & TV Awards will still air Sunday without a host. Changes are being made daily as producers pivot around the writers strike. We will have to wait and see what happens but according to Variety presenters, nominees and guests are still willing and able to appear on the telecast. MTV also pulled the plug on red carpet show and talent interviews before the show.
