[Videos] Mariah Carey, Madonna, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Daddy Yankee and More Added To National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress

Mariah Carey’s iconic 1994 holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” has been added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. This Christmas Classic is among 25 tracks that were added to the registry, including legendary recordings from John Lennon “Imagine” Led Zeppelin “Stairway To Heaven” Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” Queen Latifah’s “All Hail the Queen” Daddy Yankee’s reggaeton anthem “Gasolina.” The Police “Synchcronicity” Irene Cara “Flash Dance” Eurythmics “Sweet Dreams” John Denver “Take Me Home Country Roads” Jimmy Buffet “Margaritaville” The Four Seasons “Sherry” and more.

According to the Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, “The National Recording Registry preserves our history through recorded sound and reflects our nation’s diverse culture.” Hayden further stated that the library is pleased to help ensure that these recordings are preserved for future generations. This year, the registry received over 1,100 nominations from the public for recordings to add to the collection.

Mariah Carey expressed her gratitude and excitement on social media, sharing a video where she talked about the song’s origins. She stated that she was “honored beyond belief” and did not imagine that this would happen when she wrote and recorded the song. Carey also shared a video conference call with Library of Congress Chief Communications Officer Roswell Encina to express her gratitude for the recognition. She noted that she had no idea that the song would become such a massive hit and thanked the Library of Congress for including her in this distinguished group of artists.
