3 Time GRAMMY, 9 Time Latin Grammy, 8 Time Billboard Music Awards Winner and part time WWE Superstar BAD BUNNY who will host Backlash in his homeland May 6th has been hit with a $40 Million lawsuit from his ex girlfriend.
Carliz De La Cruz Hernández, filed the lawsuit in a Puerto Rican court, alleging that Bad Bunny used a recording of her voice without her permission in at least 2 songs.
De La Cruz claims her voice, saying “Bad Bunny, baby,” has been used in Bad Bunny’s songs, promotional material, concerts, and music platforms, causing her anxiety and fear.
De La Cruz and Bad Bunny started dating in 2011, and were engaged to be married but they went their separate ways then renited and split again.
In her lawsuit she claims he asked her to record herself saying the phrase. Despite declining offers to sell the rights to the recording, she alleges that her voice was used anyway. Carliz refused an offer of $2,000 to buy the clip, and asked to discuss a contract for licensing her voice.
The audio clip was featured in the 2016 single ‘Pa Ti’, and ‘Dos Mil 16’ from his fourth and latest studio album, ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’
De La Cruz said in the lawsuit statement “Thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused, and currently causes, De La Cruz to feel worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious.”
Bad Bunny’s label Rimas Entertainment and his manager, Noah Kamil Assad Byrne are also being sued.
