Streaking at public events is nothing new. We have see it at sporting events and public demonstrations and back in 1974 a photographer/gallery owner named Robert Opel streaked on stage at the Oscars with a peace sign while David Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor. David laughed then regained his composure and said “Well, ladies and gentlemen, that was almost bound to happen… But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?” Ouch! Gotta love the late great David Niven and his quick wit.
Avril Lavigne handled the situation differently on Monday night at the Juno Awards in Edmonton when a Topless Protester came waltzing on to the stage. Avril carried on with her intro for AP Dhillion then told the women ‘Get The F*** Off’ the Stage.
The woman was wearing wearing pasties on her breasts and “land back” painted on her arm. On the back a message about abut controversial housing development “Stop Logging Growth Now” and “Save The Green Belt”
The streaker at the JUNOS made international headlines including coverage from BBC NEWS.
The big question is how did this women get on stage and where was security and why did it take so long to get her off? A question that faced the Oscars after Will Smith slapped host Chris Rock on stage in 2022.
VIDEO from Instagram/IHeartRadioCa VIEW DISCRETION IS ADVISED:
Lavigne returned to the stage later to accept her TIKTOK Fan Choice Award and said “Now nobody try anything this time or the Canadian’s gonna come out in me and I ‘ll F*** a b**** up!”
40 Awards were handed out at a ceremony on Saturday Night and a few more during the broadcast on Monday night on CBC. The Weeknd led the pack with 6 nods and scored 4 Awards on Saturday and 1 more on Monday. He is now in second overall behind Anne Murray. Check out the full list of Winners at JunoAwards.ca
Tyler Shaw announced the Toronto native The Weeknd was absent from the Junos and was boooooed. Abel Tesfaye sent a written statement provided to The Canadian Press by Junos organizers “I am so honoured to be recognized like this from my home country that I love so much. I’m so humbled by all this and could never thank fans enough.”
The 52 Annual JUNO AWARDS featured many performances including a salute to 50 years of Hip Hop Music with Kardinal Offical, Maestro Fresh Wes, Choclair and many other trailblazing artists.
Oiler’s Connor McDavid inducted Alberta’s very own Nickelback into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and fans at Rogers Place in Edmonton showed love for their captain with chants of MVP MVP MVP!!!
