THE WEEKND BECOMES FIRST ARTIST TO HIT MAJOR MILESTONE on SPOTIFY!
Toronto’s very own The Weeknd reached a new milestone on Spotify this week with 100 Million Monthly Listeners.
The streaming service announced on their Instagram “It’s official: On February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify History to reach 100 Million monthly listeners.
At one point Justin Bieber was the first to reach 90 Million monthly listeners but has slipped to Number 12 in montly listenership with 67.9 Million. Miley Cyrus is second with 82.5 Million, Taylor Swift in 3rd with 80.3 and fresh off the heel of her Super Bowl Half Time Show appearance Rihanna is 4th on the list with 79.6 Million and Shakira rounds out the Top 5 with 77.6 Million. Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, David Guetta, SZA and Drake round out the Top 10,
The Weeknd’s track “Less Than Zero’ is the official theme song of WWE Wrestlemania sceduled for April 1 and 2 at SOFI Stadium in Inglewood California
“The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium,” a concert special filmed during his “After Hours ‘Til Dawn Tour,” just premiered on HBO Max where he is also set to release his first drama series later this year called “The Idol.”
The Weeknd is currently enjoying a resurgence with his song “Die For You” originally on the Starboy album in 2016 and released as a single in 2017 and currently charting inside the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to viral success and strong radio airplay.
Last Friday a new version of the track featuring Ariana Grande was released.
