Montreal Candiens GM Kent Hughes Selected JURAJ SLAFKOVSKY from Slovakia as the #1 Pick in the 2022 NHL Draft
The announcement Thursday night at the Bell Centre surprised and shocked many hockey fans, players and management but it was an historic pick! The Montreal Canadiens selected big left winger Juraj Slafkovsky first overall, making him the first Slovakian ever to be taken Number 1 at the NHL Draft.
Shane Wright was touted as the top pick but was chosen 4th overall.
Top 5 in The 2022 NHL Draft:
1. Canadiens: Juraj Slafkovsky
2. Devils: RHD Simon Nemec
3. Coyotes: C Logan Cooley
4. Kraken: C Shane Wright
5. Flyers: C/LW Cutter Gauthier
The Habs made two trades early in the NHL Draft on Thursday, acquiring Kirby Dach from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Canadiens first kicked things off with the New York Islanders, trading Alexander Romanov and the 98th overall pick to acquire New York’s 13th overall selection. Then Montreal used that 13th pick and packaged it with the 66th overall pick to acquire Dach.
The Maple Leafs were scheduled to have the 25th pick but was given to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Buds drafted forward Fraser Minten in Round 2 on Friday
Round 2 to 7 started at 11am at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
