Subway has announced that franchise locations will no longer be forced to run the $5 foot-long promotion. CEO Trevor Haynes will now let each franchisee decide whether it wants to sell the $5 Foot-long sandwiches. Haynes made the decision after hearing complaints from franchise owners when the $5 Foot-long deal returned last year. The promotion was first launched in 2008 and helped boost sales for franchises across the US as the country was hit by the Great Recession. When the chain brought the $5 Foot-long back in winter after a years-long absence, many franchisees were irate. They complained of the slim margins they earned off of the discounted sandwich.
