The Weeknd, ‘Deeply Offended’ By H&M Ad

The Weeknd says he’s cutting ties with H&M after being “deeply offended” by an ad showing a black child in a hoodie with the phrase “coolest monkey in the jungle.” 


H&M responded with an apology, telling USA Today “We sincerely apologize for offending people with this image. The image has been removed from all online channels and the product will not be for sale in the United States. We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues.”

The Weeknd has been working with H&M as a collaborator on his XO clothing line and has performed at H&M fashion shows in the past.
