As the Facebook data breach controversy continues and Mark Zuckerberg is testifying to the House and Senate Committtees another online breach occurred Tuesday with many high profile videos replaced and defaced. The most viewed video of all time with over 5 Billlion views on Youtube “Despacito” and others were victims of a security breach on Vevo. The cover image of the massive international spanish hit from Luis Fonsi/Daddy Yankee disappeared for a bit and was replaced by an image of masked people pointing guns taken from Netflix show “Casa de Papel” (Money Heist). The description was changed by hackers calling themselves “Prosox and Kuroi’sh.” The video has now been restored and the number of views was not affected. Drake, Dj Snake, Chris Brown, Shakira, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and others were also hacked. A spokesperson for Youtube said the company worked with its partner to disable access after seeing “unusual upload activity” on some Vevo channels. Vevo says the breach was contained and it is working to reinstate all videos that were affected and restoring its service. Vevo says it is investigating the source of the breach. Vevo previously experience a breach in September 2017 when some of its files were stolen and leaked online.
