Very High Winds Coming Today – Special Weather Statement In Effect

There is a special weather statement in effect for the west end of the GTA, warning about the winds we are going to get today. Environment Canada says Toronto, Hamilton, Waterloo-Wellington, Halton Peel and Dufferin-Innisfil can expect strong southwesterly winds with gusts up to 80 km/h to develop this afternoon and continue into the evening. The Lake Huron shoreline and Niagara Region, along the Lake Erie shoreline are under a wind-warning, with winds of 90 km/h or more expected. Here are the details:

  • Guelph – Erin – Southern Wellington County
  • Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo
  • Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County
  • Brantford – County of Brant
  • Woodstock – Tillsonburg – Oxford County
  • Hanover – Dundalk – Southern Grey County
  • Owen Sound – Blue Mountains – Northern Grey County

Strong winds this afternoon and evening. Strong southwesterly winds with gusts up to 80 km/h are expected to develop this afternoon and continue into this evening. The strong winds are forecast to gradually weaken overnight. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

  • Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County
  • Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County
  • Dunnville – Caledonia – Haldimand
  • Thomas – Aylmer – Eastern Elgin County

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring. Strong winds this evening into Wednesday morning. Strong southwesterly winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected to develop this evening and gradually weaken by Wednesday morning.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.
