Will Oprah run in the next election? It’s been major topic of discussion and debate since her moving and inspirational speech at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills Sunday night. People are talking more about this than the awards winner. I haven’t seen any tweets from US President Donald Trump but he did give his opinion during an oval office meeting on immigration. Unlike many of his online rants Trump didn’t bash Oprah instead he said they are friends and he likes her. He appeared on her show in 1988 and on one of her final shows in 2011 with his family. In 1999 he told Larry King that Oprah would be his first choice for running mate. Trump was asked whether he would beat Oprah and he replied “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah will be a lot of fun… I don’t think she’s going to run… I know her very well.” Trump’s daughter Ivanka praised Oprah’s speech at the Globes and said it was “empowering” and “inspiring.” Back in the fall Oprah said she wasn’t considering to run. Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep both support her and so does Lady Gaga and many other celebrities have taken to social media with their approval. The LA Times asked her longtime partner Stedman Graham and he said “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.” On Tuesday, CBS This Morning co-anchor and Oprah’s best buddy Gayle King said Winfrey has no plans to run for president right now but she is “intrigued” by the idea. Back in the fall Oprah said she wasn’t going to run but who knows people change their minds. Only time will tell. Join the conversation on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
