We now know where the first LCBO run Ontario pot shops will be. The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) in Toronto will be located at 2480 Gerrard Street East. That’s in a strip mall near Victoria Park. Three other shops will be opened in Guelph, Kingston and Thunder Bay. No opening date has been set yet. In total: 40 stores are expected to open this year and another 40 by July of next year. The province plans to set up roughly 150 standalone cannabis stores by 2020.
Here are the addresses for all four locations:
- 304 Stone Road West, Guelph
- 770 Gardiners Road, Kingston
- 2480 Gerrard Street East, Toronto
- 570 Harbour Expressway, Thunder Bay
The LCBO says, “The identification of additional OCS store locations is ongoing and more information on store locations will be communicated over the coming months”.
Preliminary retail store designs are being developed. OCS retail stores are being designed with a lobby area, before individuals would enter the main retail store. Consistent with federal requirements, IDs will be checked to prevent underage access to cannabis—no one under the age of 19 will be permitted entry to the main retail store. There will be no product in the lobby, as federal requirements do not permit products be visible to youth.
