Three men who attempted to avoid a RIDE checkpoint in Caledon won’t be avoiding weapons charges after they were apprehended by Police attempting to flee in the early hours of Friday morning.
Just after 12 a.m. on June 29, 2018, Caledon OPP officers conducting a RIDE program on Albion Vaughan Town Line noticed a vehicle make a U-turn in an attempt to escape the police checkpoint. Officers quickly caught up and pulled over the vehicle in a nearby parking lot on Highway 50. One of the passengers attempted to run from the scene but was apprehended by police after a brief pursuit on foot. The other two occupants were arrested as well.
During the stop, police seized a loaded 9mm handgun. As a result, all three men, two 26-year-olds from Brampton and a 19-year-old from Caledon are facing multiple weapons charges, as well as a number of other charges such as flight from police, obstruct a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, fail to comply with undertaking and fail to comply with a recognizance.
