There Has Been A Pipeline Explosion In Northern BC

A natural-gas transmission line ruptured early last evening, sparking a massive blast and fire on Enbridge’s Westcoast line at a rural location northeast of Prince George. Enbridge reports no injuries, and says crews have isolated the rupture and are working to contain the incident. About 100 area residents — most from a nearby First Nation — have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution. Police say the evacuation zone has now been reduced to homes within a one-kilometre radius of the explosion site. National Energy Board spokesman Tom Neufeld says the NEB has jurisdiction over that gas line and has dispatched inspectors. They will work with Transportation Safety Board investigators, probing the cause.
