A 37-year-old Nobleton man wanted for an armed robbery at a gas station near Schomberg has been arrested on an unrelated weapons charge in Barrie.
On Saturday, June 30, 2018, Nottawasaga OPP were called to the scene of the robbery at the Esso station on Highway 9. Police say that at approximately 8:30 p.m., a lone man entered the gas station armed with a sawed-off shotgun. The clerk was able to escape into an adjoining room, while the perpetrator helped himself to lottery tickets, cigarettes and a small amount of money. He then fled in a vehicle, which investigators were able to later identify, along with the man’s identity, thanks to video surveillance.
Police located the vehicle at the Nobleton residence of the suspect, but a search warrant executed at the home found that he was not there. However, the man was arrested a day later on unrelated weapons charges by Barrie Police. The weapon has been recovered.
As a result, the 37-year-old man from Nobleton is being held for a bail hearing by Barrie Police. Charges for the incident in Schomberg are currently being processed.
