Prime Minister Trudeau Announces Canadian Troops Are Heading To Iraq

Prime Minister Trudeau has made a big announcement to kick off his trip to the NATO summit in Brussels. Trudeau says Canada will assume command of a new NATO training mission in Iraq. Canadian Armed Forces personnel are heading to Baghdad and the surrounding vicinity for a year, starting this fall. This will include up to 250 Canadian Armed Forces personnel to complement existing efforts in the global coalition against ISIL. The Canadian Forces are already providing training and assistance to Iraqi security forces and helping regional forces build their capacity. The effort will also include up to four Griffon helicopters to support NATO activities.
