Over 1600 Collissions Reported This Weekend

The number of crashes is staggering from the April Ontario Storm this past weekend. According to Sgt Kerry Schmidt of the OPP there were over 1600 collisions on Saturday and Sunday and hundreds more on Monday in Toronto, GTA and surrounding areas. Some stretches of the road and highway looked like a skating rink heading towards Barrie. The 400 NB and SB lanes were closed Monday morning between Mapleview and IBR due to collision involving 2 CMV’s. The driver of N/B transport truck charged with careless driving. There were many factors that casued so many accidents including drivers without snow tires, speed, poor weather conditions and a major factor was bad and careless drivers. Sgt Schmidt said 15 people were nailed for criminal imapaired driving charges which is un acceptable. Hopefully you were not one one of these statistics this weekend. Roads and highways are in decent shape now but some sidestreets and parking lots are still messy and slushy. A few shoers and flurries and 2 expected Tuesday and warming up to 9 on Wednesday. Drive safe and keep it locked on Z1035 for traffic and weather updates.
