OPP Launches Distracted Driving Campaign During March Break

As we head into the March Break, local OPP Detachments are reminding the public of the Distracted Driving Campaign that runs from Monday March 12 to Friday March 18, 2018. The focus will be on distracted drivers and educating road users in an effort to save lives and change driving behaviour. Cell phone users are four times more likely to be in a collision than a driver that is focused on the road. Studies show that dialing and texting carry the highest degree of risk.

Actions such as dialing, scrolling through contacts, or manually programing a GPS device are illegal. These types of distractions take your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel and your mind off what you are doing. The fine for driving while holding a hand-held device or having a screen visible to the driver is now $400 and three demerit points.
