George Dickel recently decided to get in on the flavoured whiskey scene. The distillery recently announced that they’ve partnered with Tabasco to create a hot sauce-infused whiskey packaged in a bottle that’s basically a giant version of the tiny Tabasco bottles you get when you order oysters. The whiskey— which is officially dubbed “George Dickel TABASCO Brand Barrel Finish”— is the result of the distillery’s product being poured into the barrels where the peppers used to make the sauce were aged, where it then sits for 30 days. After a month, they infuse the whiskey with a small amount of Tabasco, giving it the spice you’d expect before bottling it at 70 proof.
The product is recommended served neat with celery salt on the rim, or with pickle juice and an ice chaser. “George Dickel Tennessee Whisky and Tabasco are two of the most iconic brands the South has to offer for a reason – the craftsmanship that goes into creating these products is the real deal,” said Jeff Parrott, director of American whiskey development at Diageo. Bottled at 35% abv, George Dickel Tabasco Brand Barrel Finish has an RRP of US$24.99 for a 750ml bottle and is also available in 50ml and one-litre format.
