Mississauga Mom Charged After Leaving Baby Alone In A Car For 90 Minutes While She Shopped

A Mississauga woman is facing charges after police say she left her child in a parked car for approximately 90 minutes, while she shopped in Oakville. Halton Police responded to a 911 call about the vehicle which was parked in a plaza near Trafalgar Rd and Dundas St around 12:45pm on Sunday. Paramedics were called to examine an 11-month-old infant. Fortunately, the child was ok and didn’t suffer and life threatening injuries.  The Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit took charge of the investigation and have charged 29 year old Thuy Thanh Tam Nguyen of Mississauga with: Abandoning a Child and Fail to Provide Necessaries of Life. She was released with a court date in July 2018.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Detective Constable Jody Dennis 905-465-8980 or D/Sgt Chris Newcombe at 905-465-8965 of the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit. Tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca.

Halton Regional Police would like to remind people that leaving children or pets inside a motor vehicle is not only gravely dangerous, but unlawful as well.  Having windows cracked open just a few inches has minimal to no effect on the increase in interior temperatures.
