You may remember during the Oscars, Best Actress winner Frances McDormand said she had two words for everyone in attendance ‘Inclusion Rider.’ If you are one of the people that googled that, you are not alone. It was one of the most trending terms following the broadcast. What is most surprising, perhaps, is that some of the actors in the crowd had no idea what that even was. In short, an “inclusion rider” is an option in your contract to say that you demand at least 50 per cent of the cast and crew to be women, people in the LGBTQ community, those with disabilities, or people of colour. Michael B Jordan, one of the stars of Black Panther made it publicly known he will be adopting this is all his projects.
In support of the women & men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society. I’ve been privileged to work with powerful woman & persons of color throughout my career & it’s Outlier’s mission to continue to create for talented individuals going forward.
