John Legend Achieves EGOT Status

Congrats to John Legend! He just joined a pretty cool club – so cool, only 15 people are in it – the EGOT club. That means he has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony! He’s also the first African-American man to snag that honour. John won his first Emmy last night at the  2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The award? Outstanding Variety Special category for producing the Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert special, which aired on NBC. John won alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, who are also now a part of the EGOT club. In an Instagram post, John wrote, “Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories. Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar. So happy to be part of this team. So honored they trusted me to play Jesus Christ. So amazed to be in such rarefied air. #EGOT.”
