Hurricane Irma battered the Turks and Caicos Islands early this morning. It still too early to know how much damage was done because communications to the island have been mostly knocked out. When the storm surge came in, waves were reported at 6 meters high. Next up, Irma will hit the Bahamas and Cuba. It will be late Saturday night and into Sunday morning before the hurricane makes landfall in Florida. As early as tonight they could start to see conditions deteriorating quickly. The weather models are all starting to sync up now and a direct hit on Miami and the Florida Keys is still considered likely. Irma still has not lost any strength. It remains a category 5 hurricane with 270-kilometre-per-hour winds. A mandatory evacuation order has been imposed in most parts of southern Florida.
