Hurricane Florence Makes Landfall In North Carolina

Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with top sustained winds of 150-kilometres per hour. The US National Hurricane Center says the slow-moving, monster storm is lashing the North Carolina coast with hurricane-force winds and about 3.5 meters of storm surge ocean water. A number of coastal streets have already been flooded and tens of thousands of people have been left in the dark. Florence’s eye is moving northwest at about 10-kilometres per hour, and is expected to dump a significant amount of rain on the already inundated region.
