Hurricane Florence Downgraded To Category 2 As It Approaches Land

The US National Weather Service says Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a category 2 storm. Despite the downgrade, it is still massive and emergency officials are warning residents that they don’t have much time left to evacuate. Florence is currently packing sustained winds of 177 km/h and is still expected to push a powerful storm surge of water onto land and soak the area with potentially deadly rainfall. The National Hurricane Center says the storm surge could rise up to 13 feet. 10 million people are in the path of the storm. It is expected to make landfall late tonight or early tomorrow morning. The latest models now have it taking a small swing to the south which could put parts of Georgia in the path. At least 800 flights along the US East Coast have been canceled Thursday through Saturday ahead of the storm.
