Has your mobile phone received a missed call from a strange area code recently? If so, don’t call it back. Countless people have reported getting calls from the “370” area code and similar area codes from Lithuania or Morocco. These calls could be connected to what’s known as the ‘Wangiri fraud’. Scammers use international numbers to dial users in other countries and immediately disconnect the calls. The scammers hope the person who missed the call phones the number back and then the scammers make their money by charging the caller a connection fee. The scam is being conducted all over the world. Last month people in New Zealand were targeted by area codes from Ontario.
To Bell customers: If you receive a call from an unknown international number that immediately disconnects, please don’t call the number back. It could be part of what’s known as Wangiri fraud and linked to a scam.
