Yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Facebook announced they too are entering the home device market by releasing a home assistant. It will be called ‘Portal’ and will work similar to Google Home or Amazon Echo, although it will be mainly marketed as a communications tool. Portal will feature a laptop-sized touchscreen and smart camera technology boosted by artificial intelligence. Facebook plans to market it as a way for friends and family to video chat from a communal hub. Reports say it will be available in the second half of this year for $499. This is Facebook’s first physical device release.
