Doug Ford Vows To Eliminate Provincial Income Tax For Those Making Minimum Wage

PC Leader Doug Ford says if he is elected Premiere, his party will eliminate provincial income tax for anyone earning minimum wage.  Ford says the tax credit would be implemented quickly after he is elected. It would be in place by next January. The estimated cost of this initiative would cost the province roughly $500 million a year. Ford has vowed to keep the minimum wage at $14 per hour rather than going through with the scheduled increase that would bump it to $15 in 2019. The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives found the planned wage increase would bring people more money than a tax cut would save them. However, a tax cut would shift the onus to increase take home pay from businesses to the government.
