Careless Driving Charges Issued After Vehicle Crashes into House

Orangeville Police have charged a 63-year-old woman with Careless Driving after her vehicle struck a house on First Street yesterday morning.

On Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at approximately 11:30am, the woman was exiting a townhouse complex when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, sending her Jeep Grand Cherokee forward at a high rate of speed, across First Street and right into a residence on the east side of the street.

Almost the entire vehicle entered the house and the driver had to be extricated through the rear hatch window. The female was transported to hospital with minor leg injuries. There were no other injuries as a result of this incident.

The crash caused extensive damage to the vehicle and the house. The Town of Orangeville Building Department deemed the residence unsafe until it is able to be made structurally sound for habitation.
