Brendan Fraser Claims He Was Sexually Assaulted By Former Golden Globes President

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association which runs the Golden Globes says it is investigating Brendan Fraser’s claim that its former president, Philip Berk, groped and “copped a feel” at a luncheon in 2003 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The 49 year old Fraser born in Indiana to Canadian parents and spent time in Toronto and Ottawa is best known for his role in “The Mummy” trilogy, Encino Man, Airheads, George of the Jungle, Crash and many more discussed his ordeal in an interview in GQ Magazine. A statement from the HFPA says the interview “includes alleged information that the HFPA was previously unaware of” and is looking into the accusation. It also stresses that the organization has long had what it calls “a positive working relationship” with Fraser.  Brendan Fraser suffered from depression after he was sexually harassed and the breakdown of his body after years of doing his own stunts has taken a toll on him. Fraser told GQ that Berk reached out to shake his hand. Much of what happened next Berk recounted in his memoir and was also reported by Sharon Waxman in The New York Times: He pinched Fraser’s ass—in jest, according to Berk. Fraser it was more than a pinch: “His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around.” Fraser said “I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry.” He rushed out of the room, outside, past a police officer he couldn’t quite bring himself to confess to, and then home, where he told his then wife, Afton, what had happened. He said “I felt like someone had thrown invisible paint on me.” In an e-mail, Berk, who is still an HFPA member, disputed Fraser’s account saying “Mr. Fraser’s version is a total fabrication.” Bredan Fraser is still freightened by the incident and felt he needed to say something but stopped himself may times. He said  “Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely.” Fraser who disappeared for awile and felt blacklisted from Hollywood recently landed a supporting part in Showtime’s ‘The Affair’ and an upcoming role in FX’s ‘Trust’ about John Paul Getty. Fraser said “Maybe I am over-reacting in terms of what the instance was but I just know what my truth is.”
