Beekeepers Across Canada Suffering Unsustainable Colony Loss

Beekeepers across Canada are expressing concern about the effects of the longer and cold winter we just had on their colonies. Those here in Ontario are describing the situation as serious. A survey of almost 900 Ontario beekeepers found 70 per cent of them suffered unsustainable losses to their colonies — which is also bad news for vegetable and fruit growers who depend on bees for pollination. Beekeepers in Alberta and Quebec have also experienced noticeable losses because of poor weather.
