Another big snowstorm is going to hit the east coast today. This is the third storm in two weeks. Snow, freezing rain and strong winds will hit from Virginia all the way up through the Canadian maritime provinces. In New England as much as 2-feet of snow could fall. Winter storm warnings are up for eastern New York and Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey. The storm could reach ‘Bomb Cyclone’ status, a severe drop in atmospheric pressure that would bring heavy snow and winds. Airlines and local transportation have begun preparing for the storm. American Airlines is suspending flights from Boston because of the upcoming storm. “Scattered cancellations and delays are also possible at other airports throughout the Northeast,” the winter weather alert from the airline said. Over 1,000 flights have been canceled in the United States, 402 at Boston Logan alone, according to FlightAware. Amtrak temporarily suspended its Northeast Corridor Service between Boston and New York until at least 11:00am.
Environment Canada has issued winter storm warnings and watches for most of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, where up to 10 cm of snow is expected. Airport delays are expected.
